Now in their fifth year, the awards recognize an individual and a business for outstanding advocacy on behalf of children and families in Nebraska. The recipients will be honored at a banquet on March 22, 2007, at The Country Club of Lincoln.
Criteria for the awards include exceptional service and commitment to helping Nebraska children and families succeed. Criteria for the business award include a commitment to helping employees balance work and family life.
Campbell is being honored for improving the lives of children and families in need through her public service and volunteerism. Duncan Aviation will receive the award for its charitable giving and family-friendly policies, including flexible work schedules and generous maternity/paternity leave.
“Both honorees reflect the kind of leadership we want to promote as a foundation,” said Cathie Petsch, president of the NCFF board of directors. “Strong, visionary people and organizations are very powerful in creating positive change for families, and set an example for others to follow.”
A former longtime member of the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners, Campbell is now executive vice president of Cedars Home for Children Foundation. She also has served on the Region V Developmental Disabilities/Mental Health Board, the Lancaster County Mental Health Advisory Board, the Governor’s Task Force on Violence Against Women and Children, Nebraska Child Abuse Prevention Board, Lincoln-Lancaster Food Bank board and the United Way board.
“I can think of no one more deserving of this recognition than Kathy Campbell. Her entire life has been a journey of helping others, facilitating change for the better, and improving the quality of life for Nebraska children and families,” said Lucy Buntain Comine, director of special projects at the University of Nebraska Foundation and co-chair of the Grace Abbott Awards event committee.
